Could you recommend software of these kinds?

May 22, 2013 6:28PM PDT

I've heard that one should do the regular things below for maintaining a healthy PC:

1. maintain the hardware healthy and clean (any software for this?)
2. maintain regular settings not to be changed by malware. (anti-malware?)
3. Strengthen and harmonize software installed in the device to avoid conflicts. (How?)

Any help?

1. Software can't clean hardware. That's a task for you.
2. Nothing special to do.
3. Keep current with updates (from Microsoft, Adobe, Java, Mozilla, antivirus, whatever you have installed). Quite a few updates are meant to fix bugs that makes their products insecure.

Things to do:
- run antivirus (like Avast, AVG, Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky)
- scan for spyware once in a while (MBAM, SAS)
- use the security features in your browser and e-mail program
- do NOT click on suspect links in suspect emails
- do NOT download illegal music and movies using torrents
- do NOT Yes in any popup if you don't know what you say Yes to

Is Microsoft Smartscreen safe enough that other antivirus software can be waived?

No.

Especially since Smartscreen isn't an antivirus.
