Could you live without your cell phone? Why or why not?

Mar 6, 2007 5:30AM PST

-- Absolutely! I've done so in the past, so I can definitely do without it all over again. (What if there was an emergency?)

-- No way! This is my main point of contact and I feel naked without it. (What if you were in a dead zone?)

-- I don't own no stinkin' cell phone, never have and never will! (Why not?)

-- Maybe. It really depends.(Please explain.)

Given an option, yes. My occupation requires me to have one

I work for a telecommunications company. We have to be accessible at all times, so I don't really have a choice. If you don't have obligations that require contact, I think most people coule live without them. Real life isn't usually so cooperative. Families, commuting, business communications and the occasional flat tire are all arguments in favor of cell phones.

Cost is the object.

I am not a telephone person, period. A cell phone would be useful for incidental use, but in my area there is really no genuine price competition. This area is mountainous with a fair size urban hub. There are only two carriers that actually cover the whole county (forget about adjacent counties), and monthly service starts at about $50 for the most minimal plans. There are numerous other carriers with competitive rates, but they have very spotty reception. Everywhere you see people taking their cell phones for a walk trying to pick up a signal. For a while, Simple Freedom provided a very good prepaid service in this area, but Verizon kicked them off their towers by refusing to sell them surplus airtime anymore. Even the nation's largest cellphone company, Cingular, has very poor coverage in this area. If and when real competition arrives, I will jump on the bandwagon, but until then...

July 8th

July 8th is the day after my contract ends and I will be FREE again. No more stinkin' cell phone for me. Going back to regular service at home. Cell phone service costs too much and I hate being available on a constant basis.

I agree, the cops can pinpoint and track you via your cell phone. They can tap in and record your conversations as well. Who knows what is coming next. Information is Power.

COULD YOU LIVE WITHOUT YOUR CELL PHONE? Why or why not?
Mar 19, 2007 1:16AM PDT

Cell phones have gotten to be way to gaudy! Only a basic phone is needed! Cell companies put all them gadgets and gizmos to trap the teens into having one! Prepaid cell, basic is the answer, make and receive calls only.

Somebody Help Us !

OK, I don't want music podcast, pictures, or separate little tunes for separate callers. I only want a simple tracphone that will ring loudly & vibrate. There are old people in the world & me & my husband belong in that group. My husband is hard of hearing & we have gotten two different trac phones (please don't suggest a monthly service) we only make 2 0r 3 calls month. These tracphones play soft music when the volume it turned up as high as you can get it. Let me condense all this into one simple sentence. IS THERE A TRACPHONE THAT ACTUALLY RINGS AND YOU CAN HEAR WHEN SOMEONE IS CALLING? I don't want to go around with a thing in my ear either. Happy
Thank you for any help.

People can live without their cellphones.
They're just too lazy.

I can live without cellphone

If people can't live with cell phones, how about people who lived in old times without cell phones. It's certain that cell phones bring a lot of fun and convenience. But as for me I can live without it, I experienced the time when I lost my second cell phone.

I don't have one and do not want one. Would be a good thing to have in an emergency though in the car, in the glove compartment.

I've lived without a cell phone or home phone for years
Oct 17, 2016 11:53AM PDT

I'm don't trust the government with all their lying and spying so I don't own a cell phone because of their collection of people's cell records and because the GPS. I don't own a home phone because I think people calling me all the time especially telemarketers is annoying. I have lived around 3 years now without a home phone and around6 years without a cell phone. I also have no social media, dating or blogging accounts. I have seen and heard many things and want no part of any of it so I stay away from things that can be used to violate my privacy and that is every Americans right to have absolute privacy. And any whom say a person who wishes to have privacy is suspicious is paranoid and needs to take a chill pill.
