Could be a virus? Please, help...

by lunna2000 / May 16, 2009 4:36 PM PDT

I'm having a problem with my keyboard. When my pc goes to sleep after 5 mins of being inactive and I put it back to work my keyboard is dead and if I do a restart the system tells me that it doesn't recognize it or a keyboard is not present. I have to completely turn the pc off, unplug it, wait a few minutes and turn it back on to make it work again. The keybord is a Microsoft ergonomic (don't know the model) not wireless, mi pc is 2 yrs old, Windows XP home.

I hope it is not a virus, my McAfee antivirus is out of date since 2 months ago. Please, help.

Hello Coryphaeus,
Thank you for your reply.
No, it is not a USB keyboard, it's 2 yrs old, as well as the pc. It just started 10 days ago. I wake it up by moving the mouse but I noticed this morning that the keyboard turns itself off when the system goes to sleep.

An out of date Antivirus is as good as none.

Given Avast, AVG and others are free I'm asking you this -> Why go without?

I know, that is not smart. Even if it is not a virus I'm learning a lesson, I'm buying McAffee right know.

First step- get an up to date anti-virus.

You said your keyboard is not wireless and not USB, what type of connection is it?

Another thing to try is to uninstall and reinstall the keyboard in the Device Manager.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
