Either run the on screen keyboard or plug in a PS2 keyboard for that new account creation.
Now there was a pest that damaged the OS so well that you can't create new accounts. For that one I either do the XP REPAIR INSTALL (see google) or if it's some machine with only restore media we backup what they can't lose and start over.
There's a lesson here. I wonder if they'll learn it this time.
I am helping a buddy out by phone who is 600 miles away.
Friday his User Profile came up corrupted. I know he had run his virus protection and Malwarebtyes scans on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, trying to be on alert for the Conflicker virus. The scan found some things, but cleared them up, and his computer was working fine all day Thursday and some of Friday. Sometime on Friday he rebooted and XP said the profile was corrected and created a temporary profile for him to log in to.
The obvious thing to do would be to create a new profile. Here's what we've done, but when no results.
1. Attempt to create a new profile using the XP temporary profile. He can access the link in control panel under user accounts to create a new account, but it does let him type in the box that asks for a name for the new acount. No messages. The cursor just blinks.
2. He can log in under the Guest account, but of course the Guest account doesn't allow you to create new accounts.
3. I had him Boot in to Safe Mode, and log in as Adminstrator. In Safe Mode he can go to Control panel > User Accounts to create a new account. Its the same issue. When he gets to the point where he needs to add the new account name, the little box will not except typing or text. The cursor just blinks.
4. So I ask him to go to RUN so he can type in REGEDIT so he can read to me whats starting up. The system will not let him type in the RUN box. This occurs whether he's logged on as Safe Mode Adminstrator, Guest or under the XP temporary acccount.
Now, you might think its a keyboard issue. But he has no problem typing anywhere else in the system. He can log on as Guest and use any of the application and typing is find. Its JUST the windows input fields that wont accept text.
Any ideas, short of a full system restore.
