corrupt internet on xp sp3

by jimi1969 / June 16, 2008 7:59 AM PDT

hi,
i'm system is P4 with 1 gig ram, using xp sp3, running avg antivirus, fully updated, running registry mechanic, adsl connection. recently my internet connection slowed down especially my p2p connections to almost a screeching halt. i did a full virus scan both on my computer and free online ones and no viruses were found. when i called the internet company they said that everything was normal they hadnt changed anything and my upload was higher than my download which is implicit of a virus. i tried using a connection from a different company and same thing. i used microsoft malicious software removal and it found nothing. does anyone have any idea what i should do? should i post my log?
thanks

Well, considering about 99% of content distributed by P2P is illegal, maybe it's for the best. Maybe you should just quit while you're ahead.

The problem
by Jimmy Greystone / June 16, 2008 12:34 PM PDT
In reply to: wow

The problem is likely the SP2 change to the TCP/IP stack to limit the number of concurrent connections to 10. It can be changed, but I'll decline to tell you how. If you're clever enough, you have ample information to locate it on your own now.

So consider it a test. If you fail, by not being able to locate the solution on your own, you probably shouldn't be using P2P programs anyway. You most likely don't know how to adequately shield yourself, and will some day be sued for your activities. Since I am not particularly fond of the prospect of being named as an accessory to your crimes, all I will do is get you started in the right direction. You're on your own to figure the rest out.

So, you can whine and pout all you want about how I'm not being very helpful, it's not going to change my mind in the slightest. I've already given you a huge clue, which is practically a giant neon flashing sign saying, "Here there be treasure!" with a big arrow. Don't be lazy and expect other people to hand you things, step up and do a little work on your own. You can start by not pouting if you can't figure out my clue.
