Then we have to backup what we forget to and try another drive.
An old story. We had a drive that had an error CHKDSK could not clear. Since it was a non-critical machine in the office we tried any disk recovery tools on it for 4 years. One day Johnny said "Oops" and the machine didn't boot so we cleared the drive, restored from backup and the error never came back.
This is one of many such stories and the lesson is simple. CHKDSK can't fix everything.
I use Windows 7, 64 bit, & have a Compaq Presario. I keep getting the message, on start up, that I need to run a check disk for consistency. But, when it gets to step 2, it freezes about half way. It keeps popping up recovering $I31 in File 5. Then when I tried to install the AOL desktop, I get a pop up that says I have a corrupt file on my C drive. Any ideas on how to fix this?
