corrupt file of some sort

I'm on Me2000 and Dell v1.1. whenever I get to windows I get an error message saying
appears to be corrupt reinstall and then try again. I am lost I just bought spyware but it was saying this for 2 days now I just installed the spy ware to day

also I forgot to add that I upgraded today to Internet explorer 6 and whatever else were the critical updates etc. please help should I upgrade to xp am I operating on to old of an system? Also I thing my MS dos mode is gone

Although Windows ME isn't my favorite operating system, it's still supported and should allow you to run for a while. The "pss.exe" file could be lots of things and it would sure help if you could tell us more about that particular file on your machine, IF it's still there. You might also try running a few scans with the free tools below.

I'm not sure which program you bought, but I doubt if it was called "spyware" like you have indicated in your post. What is the actual name of the program?

Spyware is bad...but I presume you meant a detection/removal tool for such. I cannot find a reference for that filename. Can you look to see what is loading at startup and post back. It is probably in your system tray or can be found using msconfig from the command line.
