correct memory not showing on "my computer".

I reformatted my hard drive, and I noticed that under "my computer" it is only showing 512 megs of memory. I have 1 gig installed and that is what it showed before I reformatted. How do I get my pc to recognise the total amount of memory that I have installed??

thanks
Patty

Re: memory disappeared.

Two questions:
- what's your OS (Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista)?
- if you go into the BIOS-setup at boot, what does it say about the memory?

That shows that ...

it's not some Windows problem. Good to know. I see VAPCMD continues along the hardware line.

The RAM should be 'automatically' recognized

In reply to: correct memory not showing on "my computer".

Did you remove or reinstall the RAM or make any other HW changes?

VAPCMD

(NT) no, I didn't

How much RAM does it show during bootup ?

In reply to: no, I didn't

Also ....try downloading - running Memtest86+...

If that shows 512 RAM...might UNPLUG the PC and then remove and reinstall the RAM. Reconnect to AC power and turn it on.

Let us know.
