Corporate Antivirus

Dec 19, 2005 5:56AM PST

Just as I suspected, Norton corportate isn't working too well these days. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a corporate antivirus (managed by a server)?

I have a Windows network with 2 Win2k3 DC's and 1 Win2k file server, 25 nodes using Win 2000 Pro and Win XP Pro.

What happened when you called them to ask for a fix?

For a while now I have been suspecting that it hasn't been working correctly. I did a scan on my pc using avast and it found 4 trojans.

I use to be a die hard symantec fan, but over the last couple of years (in my opinon) their software has just gone completely down hill.

You heed good advice Bob, I will try calling them to see if they can or will fix, but I am not too hopeful. I am still looking for other ideas to push up the chain.

Unless someone was selling me something that I am not aware of, the 25 licenses that I have been purchasing over the last few years was only about $200/yr (US). Not really all that big of an expense for something so critical. My firewall support costs more than triple that.

AHA. "That" issue.

There is an idea, much like an urban myth that an antivirus will find any and all pests (virus, trojan, other.) What we learn is that just like a doctor's opinion we always want the second opinion.

For me I have no preference for the primary antivirus but ask that secondary scans with a web based antivirus such as HOUSECALL be performed from time to time. Also, if you run 2000 or XP you can get most spyware out with EWIDO.

If you are looking for the perfect AV, you will be searching along with Diogenes the Cynic. (hint: google.com)
