- Why use an external drive? That's only for backup and transport, not for working on.
- The icon isn't interesting. What is the extension? Same extension = same icon, so different icon is different extension. What's the extension before the crash, and what is it now?
- Files don't crash, only programs crash.
- You only lose what you didn't backup. If you find the program crashing often, you make a copy of the file every x minutes, so you lose at most x minutes of work. This is why MS Office programs have default autostore and recovery built in; Microsoft knows how to handle a PC. If Corel doesn't, it's up to you.

I am having a problem trying to open a CDR file that I think crashed. This is the 2nd time it has happened with different files.
The file still shows up in my external drive but has an icon next to it which it did not have before (a green pencil, like the icon in my program files for CorelDraw X3). When I click on it, it opens up in corel but as a blank page. Did I loose this file or can I some how recover it?
Thanks
