Question

Corel Win DVD will not run

Any way to learn why Corel Win DVD refuses to start under Windows 10? Compatibility mode doesn't help. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't help. Running CCleaner on the registry doesn't help. Switching from HDMI to DVI doesn't help. Running as administrator doesn't help.

There's nothing in the knowledgebase or online forum.

Clarification Request
Autorunning media is dead now.

As it became a preferred method to infect PCs that's over with.

Does the DVD show in Windows Explorer and what do you see in the top folder of the DVD?

Still won't run

Discs' files are shown in Windows Explorer. Doesn't matter what kind of disc is in the drive, program will not start.

What is this about the kind of disc?

DVD-R DVD+R? Tell what you mean.

Re: Corel WinDVD
http://nl.pcmag.com/corel-windvd-pro-11?specs is a link from 2011 that says it's compatible with XP, Vista and 7 (the latest version of Windows then).

- What version do you have?
- Where are the specs of that version?
- It's a paid program. What does their support say?
- What's the history? Something like: I migrated to Windows 10 in August, the program ran fine until yesterday, and now suddenly it doesn't? Or anything else?
- Any error message if you run it from Windows Explorer?
- Any error message if you run it from command prompt?

Is your problem

the auto start to do the install doesn't work? If you can see the file just run the setup manually.

Still won't run

To clarify: Win DVD will not start at all. Whether there's a DVD, Blu-ray or CD in the drive or no disc at all in the drive, the program will not start. There's no error message, nothing happens.

Have you try download the newest version or...

maybe a different player like VLC media player?

- Collapse -
Still won't run

I tried installing the newest version, and the program still will not run.

It's looking unsolvable.

What is "the newest version"?

This worked

I had the same issue and I installed that patch released in june and it works for windows 10. Your link fixed the problem. Thank you very much. I patched WinDVD 11 Pro.

My Corel WinDVD wont run On Win 7 home premium

My Corel WinDVD may not run On Win 7 home top rate and i have executed a machine repair two times. what is going on?

- Collapse -
That's why I suggest give VLC a try.
- Collapse -
Ok, you are right.

It is unsolvable. So use VLC instead.

The installation of winDVD did went without a hitch but it would not run. weird.

Re: unsolvable

You didn't yet answer 3 of my questions:
- It's a paid program. What does their support say?
- What's the history? Something like: I migrated to Windows 10 in August, the program ran fine until yesterday, and now suddenly it doesn't? Or anything else?
- Any error message if you run it from command prompt?

Still won't run

Corel support directed me to a new build. Still doesn't work.

Program stopped running in the last week, around the time I started using a ASUS VS239 H-P monitor. Both monitor and the EVGA GTX 750 Ti Superclocked video card to which it's attached are HDCP compliant, and the combination is okay.

The program will not run from the command prompt. There have never been any error messages.

The program will not run as administrator.

It should be noted that WinDVD has a history of unexplained failures.

Maybe ...

the program doesn't like the (new?) videocard or the settings for the new monitor. What happens if you go back (as an experiment!) to the old monitor and its settings (and the old card?)..

Kees, something is really strange going on here.

Because of this post, I went and downloaded and installed windvd pro11 on my computer just to see ...and you know what? It won't run. Just for the fun of it, maybe I'll install it in another computer later on.

It's a growing mystery

If you check the history of Win DVD, there are many examples of the program failing to start. Apparently no one knows what needs to be in place for the software to start, or what stops it from running. Solving these problems appears beyond anyone's ability.

Answer
Ok, I think I got the solution.

This was done on 2 system so I think it the solution. Don't ask me to explain because I don't know but here's what I did; I am talking about installing on win10 system here. First I install windvd8 (that's what I got), it will not launch as you already know. I reboot my computer and install windvd Pro11 (make sure the previous version of windvd still installed in your system). Now the newer version of windvd should launch, maybe a bit slow for my liking but it will run. Have fun.

An unlikely solution

I finally discovered the source of the problem.

A program called IObit Malware Fighter was blocking the ivregmr file that Win DVD needs to read to start. When I uninstalled IObit Malware Fighter, the problem went away.

IObit is snake oil...

and should be well steered clear of.
