Corel Draw Graphics Suite, Who Uses It?

Mar 23, 2005 2:23PM PST

What do users of Corel DRAW use it for and why?
Seems to be a multi-use app.
I have never used it. Just wondering who uses all the features with the app?
I use Adobe & Quark.

Corel Draw

Graphics Suite is the PC equivalent of Illustrator with a photo manipulation application and 3D application thrown in for a very attractive price. I've only worked in Corel Draw a few times (when I was training customers), but it works very similarly to Illustrator. I haven't used any of the other applications in the package.

Pixelish, Is it really, as one of my friends describes when a Corel Draw file comes into their print shop in Boston, a nightmare?
I have never used it. Not as refined as Illustrator?

I had the opportunity years back to meet the genious that developed the principal of Illustrator for his wife, who was a graphic artist and needed some help. He developed it and also started Adobe. Saw him at a composium put on by Adobe ten years ago in Boston. One smart person! You should have seen him describe Adobe Illustrator using the app. Absolutely the most amazing demonstration that I have ever seen. Ever! Genious!

I only use Illustrator. But thank goodness my friends in the printing industry clued me in to spreads and chokes in Illustrator to make their life easier with trapping. Wonder how many artists know trapping?
When I first started in Illustrator, I did not have a clue. Thought that everything was automatic. Had no idea to spread the black rule on a simple piece of black & white line art, or how to trap.
Does Corel Draw have good trapping software? Can you adjust it as in Illustrator?
Illustrator has a default of .25. For my friend that has a very simple press I use a trap set to .324. Is that correct to use for a two-color Meilie Press (Do not know how to spell that press name).

Well, always nice to talk shop with you. Stay in touch.

Corel Suite vs Adobe CS
Mar 31, 2005 2:20AM PST

Both have many application... they just a software created by different company.

Coreldraw is Adobe Illustrator
CorelPaint is adobe Photoshop
CoreRave is Adobe GoLive

and so on (there are also similar program from Macromedia i.e. Freehand etc)

Which are the best? it depends on the familiarity of the user..

I use many of them (Corel, Adobe and Macromedia) due to many files I received (work related..) have different files type, which some of them are not easily converted from one to another... but mostly also for fun and just trying things anything I can get my hand on..

So in my opinion, each have their own strength in certain area.

Many designer use Adobe product, mainly because they are the main application in mac world.. (Corel came to mac only recently..)
