It would be the rare instance the old C2Q would do better than the i3.
BUT if you have Windows you have to consider the cost of licenses and a fresh install of the OS since Windows doesn't handle such a change at all.

I have read a lot of conflicting information on this. Some sites say the i3 is better, others say the q6600. If you guys know which is better in games, please post your opinions. Should i move the motherboard with the i3 in my main system with a c2q q6600 or should i get a i5 or i7? It' ht and newer architecture for the i3 and more cores for the c2q.
