Copying old folder into Outlook after XP reinstall

by Frizzel / January 27, 2008 12:22 PM PST

Before I reinstall windows i copy my outlook folder from the store folder located in the C:Documents and Settings etc. After installation I usually have no problem putting the contents of the old files into the new Store folder. I recently have had a problem-doing this. I put the files into the folder but when I opened OE the old mail wasn't there. can't figure out what to do. If I was too vague on anything just ask. Any help would be appreciated.

If You're Talking About A .pst File...
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / January 27, 2008 12:55 PM PST

...then after copying the folder over to the new computer, have you tried opening Outlook, then click on "File", Open, then select "Open Outlook Data File".. Navigate to the location of your copied .pst file and it should open the saved mail and add it to your folder list in Outlook.

If this isn't what you're looking for, then please tell us your version of Outlook and the exact "Store" folder you're referring to.

Hope this helps.

Your subject says OUTLOOK but ...
by Edward ODaniel / January 28, 2008 9:03 AM PST

your description says OE - they are NOT the same.

Guessing that you really mean Outlook Express, here is a link that should help:;en-us;270670

Do note that if all you "backed up" were files with the .dbx file extension you also needed the one named Folders.avx so make use of the information in the link to IMPORT your messages, etc.
