Get a DVD RECORDER and forget the PC route.
Item 1 is DEAD ON ARRIVAL because you have the USB connection which the quality is so poor that I never unpack the USB cable and wonder why they give that to us. Connect with firewire, be happy.
Item 3 needs not much else other than "obvious items" such as software to make the DVD (DVDSanta?) and the DVD drive. And lots of time...

I know this question is probably posted every other day and everyone is tired of it, but I've spent the 2-3 hrs of searching for the answer on my own without total satisfaction. Oh, and I'm neither a computer or video-file, so you'll have to dumb it down for me. ![]()
I have a Sony Hi8 camcorder that still works. I want to convert my Hi8 tapes to digital and DVD. I only have the camcorder with working A/V ports, a simple Dell computer with USB running Windows 2000.
It seems I can:
1) Buy a digital camcorder and convert the signal through the digital camcorder directly to the computer via USB. In this case I'd have a new camcorder, which I am already contemplating doing.
2) Buy a converter like the Canovus ADVC. I don't know anything about the pros/cons of this.
3) Buy a an analog converter card for my computer. What else would I need to get?
4) Send the tapes to a place that will copy to DVD for ~ $10/tape. Then I suppose I could just rip the DVD onto my computer. Since I only have ~ 10-15 tapes to convert, this may be the best option.
Anything else you have to add would be much appreciated. Thanks!
