copying DVD-only 1 tray-bringing over menu-novice software!

Nov 12, 2006 3:31PM PST

Hello, I am trying to find the best software to use to copy my DVD's Made from an Emerson (Funai)VHS/DVD Recorder of family and Public Domain movies from TV for my collection, and sending to friends as gifts. Since I only have one CD/DVD tray,+/-RW on my HP PC, I found that I must download first to my Hard drive, then open "explore" the DVD after searching it from RUN/E drive. (Yep,I'm new and not too smart at this) Plus it takes forever to copy. Since I make my own chapters and titles,I end up with bup (?) files-VOX (?) file and a 3rd one for each event. The long ones IE 150+kb's movies,I change to .API so I can see them. Only then Real Player will play them-The Windows Media Player does not recognize them and Quick Time is useless as well... To the point (sorry,I ramble) I'm looking for software for this XP SP2 Media Ed. Exp.6 (soon to be 7) that would make it a snap (even for a slow learner) to copy just two of each. I hate to "Try" several programs in the mean time to test, (Yes,I am on dial-up too for updates or loading). I saw an ad for a product called Easydvdx software with all kinds of guarantees, etc.,and it said CNET/Download.com gave it 5 stars.AND said...."...The most popular product in history..." But that site is listed only as a paid ad and is www.dvdmovieburnpro.com (on site it has two different URL's -same Owner listed as Ethan Hunter
product. But I could find no review of this product. Did I miss something? Was it reviewed? Maybe a Moderator could check this out?
What would be a couple of the best programs to achieve my goal?
I thank all readers in advance for any aid.
Regards, Dan

Re: copying DVD

When I bought my burner, there was a (OEM) copy included of Nero Burning Rom, a burning program. And one of the options it offered is to copy a DVD, for which you only need one drive (and, of course, 4 Gb free on the hard disk to let it store the contents in the mean time). Are you sure your burner came without such software?

Try the free CDBURNERXP from http://www.snapfiles.com/get/cdburnerxp.html to see if it offers such. If not, it might have the option to copy the dvd to an image (an .iso file) on the hard disk and then burn that image to a new dvd. That's the fastest way to make multiple copies.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Kees, I know I can burn to the Hard drive, but just opening a DVD I made, open's a Pandora's box of files, listed as vob,ifo and bup's-Trying to pick how to transfer, and what to had me scratching my head. I was inquiring about the best software to use to bypass the aggravation for us newbies. Just surfing the net I found an article that said only 3 of 70+ programs tested even worked. Also finding support after purchase is suppose to be next to impossible. I hope to find something before Christmas to send the family! (sure would beat the canned letter and a half-hearted smile with Saint Nick) Good Evening, Dan

It's recommended by people here. And free. No harm trying it, I'd say.

If I can see the VOB and more files...

I can duplicate the DVD with CDBURNERXP.

HOWEVER there is two things you gotta know.

1. After copying such content to some temp directory on your hard disk, run CDBURNERXP and change from Joliet to ISO LEVEL 1. I won't discuss what this is since you can research it on google.

2. Now add the files from your temp directory to make your new DVD copy. A neat trick here is you can add other files if you need.

Now click the record button but absolutely, positively check off the item called "Close session". If you don't, most players will balk at your copy.

Hi Kees, The "recommended program" (on the "ad" can't be found on a CNET search)!. They send endless spam and have never responded to any questions. On a web search it's called "easydvdx" sometime with "pro" added.$20 off this week Only-though that changes every week too. Signed by an Ethan Hunter (?) in any event,it is forwarded through a number of isp filters, good luck tracing. Mainly am concerned because CNET/Download.com name +logo are on the AD!.-SEE Last Line of this Post!!
Bob, You are right,I will search the info. on Goggle you supplied. I hope to get some burning done. But when I "explore" (under RUN-E drive) my family DVD's that I ADDED- MENU'S TO,i,M UNCERTAIN HOW/OR WHAT BRINGS THOSE FILES IN PLACE TO BE USEFUL? (Cap key stuck, sorry),a $1,000 prize to the programmer that allows highlighting and changing Cap/styles without having to re-type)!OK,lunch at a near by restaurant on me!
Thank you again for this forum and help..Dan B.-
PS. OH- www.dvddecoderpro.com uses many of the recognised names in the field for "reviews" (exact product) Truly, Dan B.
