I do have legal copies of both OS's. The win 98 came on my Dell machine originally. I also have 98se that came on a lease machine I bought from Dell. That PC was used by a relative but is no longer being used. I am able to use either OS on any machine I own, provided I only use them one at a time, correct?

Doesn't matter

Why does everyone treat using 1 OS cd on more than 1 computers a national crisis? The cops won't come to your house and take away your computers. It shouldn't be done becuase Micsrosoft doesn't like it, that is all. My friend did that, he used his XP cd that came with his computer on more than 1 computer. The worst that happened to him was he got a call from Microsoft and they sid they didn't like it.

copies..

You are correct. Those versions can be used on a different machine as long as the original machines are no longer used. This applies if they are the 'full' version and you didn't benefit by any upgrade offer to a higher level OS. For Example: You get XP Pro Upgrade because you have the original 98SE CDs and have to use that CD for the XP Upgrade to work. Technically, the 98SE CDs belong to the PC that has the XP upgrade on it. You would not legally be able to put the 98SE OS on a different computer. The reason I locked the other thread was that CNET won't allow ANY conversations that promote the use of illegal software copies of any kind. I should have asked you if your copies were legal. For not doing that I apologize.

I should have stated "I own 2 sets of 98 OS;s , one of which is being used and the other is available, since the computer it came on is no longer in use." That would have been the correct way of stating it and there wouldn't have been any confusion. Sorry!
