Copy and Pasting in Word 97 changes the font

May 18, 2005 12:43AM PDT

When I copy a block of text from one Word Document, and Paste it into another the font changes to Arial Black.
The style of the block of text is "Normal" the Normal Style in the origanal document and the Normal.dot template that I am pasting the text into are both set to Arial.

I have tried using a different Normal.dot (from a friends PC) and the same happens. I have tried re-saving the Normal.dot with the default font updated, and it still happens.

On my friends PC they can not recreate the error even using the same origanal files (although it happens whenever I do this) and normal.dot.

When I Paste Special and paste it as Unformated text it works fine.

Any ideas on what is causing this?

Cheers
Steve

Seems proper to me.

Do that.

As to the cause, that's a Microsoft programming issue and given the age of this old software the "Why?" may never find an answer. The paste special is there for a reason.

That doesn't solve the problem, only circumvents it!

Thanks for the input Bob, but using paste special isn't an ideal option (you cant use Ctrl + V for instance)
It dosn't happen on my friends PC (also running Office 97) even with the origanal files, so there must be a glitch in the set up somehwere (rather than the software itself).
Is it a "Known Problem" because it seems a little random to me.

Works the same here..

Paste isn't always that great. I have to use Paste Special to get the effect I want.

I've used Word since pre-Windows and even in Word 2.0 (Windows) this paste did this. I don't see an issue here except that Microsoft may have implemented Paste Special for a reason.

Anohter solution would be for you to map Paste Special to control-V or another key.
