cool business idea/motivation

by jmeyers213 / October 31, 2012 12:28 PM PDT

My name is Jeremy, I am 29, a graduate from the University of Toledo with a degree in Marketing. I just have a feeling I am not doing what I was intended for in life and because of that I am not happy.

I am constantly thinking about how to get myself to where I want to be and keep coming back to starting a small business. It seems like its such a tall task ahead.

The latest idea I have is taking old books and making floating bookshelves with just the book attached to the wall. I have figured out how to attach it so it can hold about 25lbs. Something I also wanted to do with it is use a cause marketing strategy and since I live in Cleveland, give a percentage back to the school system by eventually purchasing a computer or something of that nature.

I understand this isn't exactly inventing the wheel but I absolutely need some feedback. I am writing in a forum because I feel like no one wants to venture on their own to do things, with that said I am looking to you.

Pro's, Con's, anything, feedback appreciated!

Books appear to be going away.

While you may be in some place where this is not happening, here I see very few book collections. Even my old book collection was gifted away as I moved to more electronic means.

Keep trying however since at some point we usually hit on something folk will buy into.

Hey Jeremy,

A lot of business ideas fail because people don't do a bit of research before spending time and money on the idea. The idea could be great, but if there isn't a good number of people who want to buy a product, it's a loser.

Use the Google Adwords keyword tool to see what the search volumes are for your product. Also look at what people are buying on Ebay, the Dummies website and then decide if there's a big enough market for your idea.

Yeah... definitely I agree this. First of all we should compare our strategies with others to find limitations in our marketing.

Yes, it's worth seeing what others are doing to promote, then do a bit more than them. Just make sure there are people wanting to buy first - that's the priority !
