Question

Converting vinyl LP to mps

Nov 6, 2011 10:45AM PST
I have a lot of vinyl LP's that I would like to convert to mp3 format. I do not have a turntable. Do I also need a preamp or will it be part of the turntable. Which turntable and software do you suggest. I am not an audiophile but would like to convert and have a decent quality mps. I have an 24" imac, with dual core 2.66 gig processors and plenty of storage. Would prefer software or a setup that is easy to use. Suggestions please.

I used a USB Turntable from ION

It does require a pre-amp and it came with Audacity software and something else, whose name I forget.

Were you able to digitally remove the pops and scratches with the audacity software?
What did you use for a preamp?

I also used a piece of software from Roxio that does that sort of thing for you.
