General discussion

Converting video tapes to dvds.

Oct 12, 2005 4:52AM PDT

I am sure there is an easy way to do that. I have XP OS computer with all the required software. e.g. VideoStudio 8, MS Movie Maker that comes with XP, dvd burner etc. I have all the connecting cables for connecting tv and video recorder/player. I have the camcorder which I use for recording home movies and I produce my home video/dvds etc.
I can not bring my Computer down to TV nor the TV up to my study for connecting them to do the busniss.I am not sure how to connect them.
I am stuck.
Could you please advise me:
1. What else do I need to convert video tapes to dvds? 2. How do I do it once I get the missing(if some are needed) bits?

Video Tape to DVD

If you have Ulead VideoStudio 8, you have all the software you need. The User Manual covers the subject pretty well.

If you can't find the user manual, you can download one at:

It now depends upon what type of video tape you are talking about.

If you have a digital camcorder and it has a firewire output, all you need is a firewire connector on your computer. If you don't have a firewire connector, you can add a firewire card to the computer.

If you have analog tapes/camcorder, you need another piece of hardware. You need a way to get the signal from the camera into your computer.

You can either buy a video input card and let your computer do all of the conversion from analog to digital, or you can buy a conversion device that will connect to your computer via firewire or USB2.
