Question

Converting VHS tapes over to DVDs

We have a 2012 Magnovox VHS/DVD combo. I understand it doesn't have a tuner. I was wondering if I could play a VHS tape and record it on a blank DVD? And then connect it to my flat screen TV to watch?

Full model number please.

Most of those combo units did not allow dubbing from VHS to DVD. Also you have the issue of copy protection in a lot of VHS tapes. Google VHS Macrovision if you want to know more about that.

All indications is this is a combo DVD and VHS player. I see no mention of recording to DVD.

Even if the tapes are not copyrighted material,

Analog to Digital conversion is not normally in the ball park for combo units.

That said, the MAGNAVOX DVD Recorder With VCR ZV420MW8, discontinued in 2012, is capable of recording a DVD from a VHS tape but only when the VHS is played back on a second VCR

As Bob said, the model number is important

Thank you, the model number is DV220MW9. I really appreciate your helping me out with this. I do not have two VCRs though.

That's the end of your journey with your current equipment

the Magnavox DV220MW9 has only got a CD/DVD reader with no burning capabilities.

All is not lost though. For a fairly small sum you can get an Analog to Digital convertor to which the VCR is connected and which connects to your computer.
Once you have the digital file, all that remains is the editing and burning to the DVD burner on your computer in DVD movie format
