Converting Text descriptions of Styles into Actual Styles?

Is it possible to convert a text manuscript that contains text descriptions of styles into actual Microsoft Word styles for importing into QuarkXPress or InDesign? A simple example of this would be <H1> for a range of text where H1 =Helvetica bold. I'm hoping that a solution in the form of a plug-in currently exists that can convert text description styles.

As a programmer I can save the document as RTF and then write a filter to do as I please to get that effect. As an enduser I may not have such an option.

If not a programmer I'd call QuarkXPress's support (you paid for it) and ask them how to import your document proper.
