Converting slideshows from Mac to PC

Jul 27, 2006 1:56AM PDT

Hello,

I've recently created a great slideshow in iMovie on my old mac powerbook, but it is unable to burn DVDs. The only DVD burner I have available to me is on a PC. I've gotten the slideshow to play at high quality on a PC by just burning the 3 files (.mov, media folder, and iMovie project file), and copying them to the PC.

That works great for viewing the slideshow, but from what I understand, it's difficult/impossible to burn a dvd of the slideshow when it's in that format (the 3 component files). I'm curious as to whether I can compress them all into one .mov file (or, ideally, an .mpeg file or one that burns to DVD on a PC) without losing image quality. My mac can compress the file for export, but it loses a lot of image quality, so I'll need to find another way around it.

My PC-using friend is pretty tech savvy, and he thought it might be possible to use an application called Frags (sp?), which will allow him to record the audio and video of what is being seen on his monitor (i.e., the slideshow), which he can then save into a PC-friendly format that he can burn to DVD, but I didn't know if any of you had any other suggestions.

If any of you have had any experience transferring iMovie slideshows from mac to PC--or just have suggestions for how I might pull off this little maneuver--I'd really appreciate it,

Michael

Since my PC can put the .MOV on the DVD...

And then I can play it from there, is there something more needed?

I lose image quality when I compress the mac slideshow files

Well, the problem I've run into is that when my mac converts the components of the slideshow (.mov file, Media file, and iMovie presentation doc) into one Quicktime .mov file, it loses a lot of image quality.

When I just copy all three files (instead of compressing it into one .mov file) onto the PC and play it, it looks great. I'm just trying to figure out how to (1) compress the three files into one .mov file on my mac without losing image quality, (2) burn the three files onto a playable DVD, or (3) convert the three iMovie slideshow files into one .mov file on the PC so that it can be burned to a DVD.

It's been a tricky topic to track down info on, mainly because it involves technical issues for both a mac and a PC.

I'm not privy to what settings you used.

I wasn't aware that I could adjust the settings in iMovie to get a higher/lower quality .mov file.
