Convertible Laptop/Tablet or Separate Laptop/Tablet

Jun 13, 2014 10:35PM PDT

Hi

I have been thinking of getting a hybrid laptop/tablet for a while now but the choice seems confusing and I frequently get the impression that most hybrids dont seem upto the job at the moment. Had been thinking of Dell (XPS12), Lenova or maybe Sony. I want more than a tablet, probably laptop with convenience of table when travelling. I'm not sure if two separate is feasible from a cost, practicality point.

I'm also thinking of getting something like a Western Digital My Cloud Storage option (8 or 10 TB) and setting up a home network. The reviews on the WD seem mixed are there better options for similar prices and is this even a true cloud storage option (where is the data if the unit packs in?). Back up and access anywhere would be useful in alternative choices. Are there any good (idiot proof documents) on setting up a home network and plugging in a cloud storage, couple of laptops/tablets and TV.

Sorry for the long post anf hope this is in the right section

But what is the job?

My mom can get by with a Chromebook. I am working on Android Apps now and my setup is a bleeding edge laptop with 16GB RAM and wow, a lot more than you find in convertibles.

What you wrote does seem to need a tablet at all but a nice laptop.

Thanks Bob, yes priority would be laptop/home network but I would like the convenience of a table for when travelling which could include reading books/mags or watching some videos (not all ipad compliant camtasia etc) and optional wotking Excel/Word. Maybe getting a 12.5" laptop and tablet might be the option but then you'd have to carry two but I hear the Dell XPS 12 can be heavy and not great in tablet mode. I also heard about ghosting issues on the Lenova (Yoga?)

Sorry but the ones I saw looked fine. Have you tried them?

@RP trying in a shop is a bit different to someone who has actually purchased/used stuff. Thanks for your input!

Some would write that's not good enough either. Good luck and try other forums like Notebookcheck.
