3. Open Office (just open the .DOC and export it to PDF)

All free too. Not even a trial.

and it's a one-time operation, adobe does it for you (up to 5 times free). Just upload and get the pdf back: http://www.adobe.com/acom/createpdf/

There are other companies offering this service as well.

The official website for MagicPDF is www.magicpdf.com, it's never been magic-PDF.com. magic-PDF.com is a rip off.

It comes up as a printer option, you click print, then give it a name and location - job done. It's free too.
