convert movies from my harddrive

is there any programs that will convert movies (mpeg, wmv and avi) to a cd that will play on my DVD player. would like to watch them on tv with other people. also what type of cd would i need (cd-r, cd-rw or dvdcd-r/w). any information would be appreciated by this no nothing person on doing this, (step by step) if possible. the burner i'm using is an attachment, (brand name BUSlink - ISB CD-RW drive)(model #RW446USB)for windows ME. Thank you

I've used Ulead's DVD MovieFactory 2.0 to do such.

Tip: It may be cheaper to buy a DVD recorder with that software rather than just the software...

Bob, can you suggest a DVD recorder that will play those files, (MPEG, AVI and WMP). hopefilly something not to costly, i'm 67 and on a fixed income. But plese make a suggest or two if you know any. Thanks again

I have used many models. Lately I've been outfitting the office machines from compgeeks.com. Some like newegg.com
