Convert divx and avi videos to play on iPod Touch

I have tried downloading many video cnversion programs, so that I can convert divx and avi movies to the MP4 format or whatever the format may be so I can play the videos on my iPod Touch.

I have Windows Vista, so I don't know if this is why I haven't been able to get a program to convert a video without the video being corupted or just not working.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good video converting program that works on vista?

iVideoToGo by Intervideo. I have tried this program with divx and .vob(dvd) files. Have not try with uncompress .avi but it should work.
