Conversion Utility

May 29, 2005 4:52AM PDT

I had a computer with Windows 98 and recently purchased a new one with XP, A Dell 3000 Home Edition with a Pentium processor. The Windows 98 had Microsoft Word installed, however, the new one has Word Perfect.

When I loaded all my personal files into the new computer in Microsoft Word it would not convert it into Word Perfect.

I was directed in the Help section to bring up the Conversion Utility but I can't find any Conversion Utility.

What can I do? Is there a Conversion Utility I can get from Microsoft? Can I buy it somewhere else?

I'm not very technically wise on computers so I thank andone for some layman help.

1. Posting your email address here will get you spammed. I can delete your post if you request it.

2. Why convert it? Just install Open Office from http://www.openoffice.org to open your documents. If you want to get them to WP, just save as "RTF" and WP should be able to use that.

Shouldn't be necessary

WordPerfect should be able to open most Word documents just fine. Then you can save them as native WordPerfect documents if you want.

XP's WordPad can also open most Word documents, but it only supports a limited subset of formatting options. For most people that's not a problem. WordPad is more than enough word processor for them.

And if all else fails, you can download OpenOffice like Bob suggested. It can open damn near anything.
