Conventional lenses with dSLR bodies?

Sep 12, 2005 8:39PM PDT

I own an over 20 year old(!) OLYMPUS OM20 (nicely equiped with a series of OLYMPUS lences) and I was wondering if there was a possibility that I could buy an OLYMPUS dSLR (body only) and use the conventional series of OLYMPUS lenses with it. Does OLYMPUS have such a product and if so, wich one is it? Or is the whole thing possible at all?
Any one can help me , here? Thanx in advance.

still wondering, though...

Thanx for the information, Jonah Jones! I learned a lot about dSLRs only by reading a few of the so many articles, opinions,e.t.c. and most of all about OLYMPUS's new products, but I still haven't found a straight forward answer to the main issue wich is: can I use my old Olympus film-camera lenses with a new Olympus dSLR body, yes or not? I plan to continue lookin it up and I'm sure I'll find the answer.. Thanx again!

It depends on the lens. I use Canon lenses interchangeably

between film and digital, but the lenses are new enough to support the technology on both types of camera.

Thank you, kiddpeat! Now I know at least that there is a chance... quite a poor one, I'm affraid, though. You see, my lenses were made back in mid-80s !!!

I would check with an Olympus dealer. If the mount has not

changed, the lens may work. However, things like auto focus may not.

never mind autofocus

thank you so much, kiddpeat, you are being very helpful and I must say I'd be greatful if you could check with an Olympus dealer 'cause I tried to myself but the man didn't seem to ...understand what I was talking about! can you believe that? as for the autofocus thing, I'm not going to miss something I never had (or care to, for that matter. I'm an oldtimer, remember? there weren't any AFs back then!)

I am so happy to read the reply about Canon lenses! I have been searching for the answer to that exact question, but have felt awkward asking. I think my lenses from my SLR Canon Rebel will be new enough as well. Thanks for asking and answering.

off course there are the chances. Like all Nikon SLR lenses fit in D50 or D70.So, there is the chance to fit Olympus lenses on Olympus DSLRs.Off course will not get the auto focus facility. You take the lenses to the shop and try with the DSlRs. Best of luck.
