Question

Controller issue

Sep 4, 2015 5:22AM PDT

Hello,

I got this gioteck controller and it works great, untill at some point, for no reason, the last button i hit (usually one of the sticks) will stick, itll say i'm pushing it while im not
When I restart it will work fine 9/10 times, when i unplug it and put it in again its not recognized.

Now, when i look for this problem the answer is always, buy a new one.
But i think its not the controller itself because:
I've downloaded keysticks, a program that lets my controller controll the mouse/keyboard, when i got the sticky button problem i saw on keysticks that the butten was pressed (while it was not) then I unplugged it and keysticks still said the button was pressed, and thus i think it has something to do with the drivers or something software related.

If i hold a button on purpose (when it works properly) and pull out the usb it will say its no longer pushed (sherlock alarm), so its not something that keysticks does.

Does anyone know about this problem, and is there a possible solution ?

Have a Toshiba sattelite laptop, running windows 7.

Answer
It does sound like flaky hardware.

You can try cleaning with the usual contact cleaner and making sure all the mechanical bits work smoothly.

Here's the thing. That's as far as I can go in a text forum. I'd have to see the device to see if I agree it's hardware by operating it.

Once in a while you get a client that digs in their heels on replacement on flaky gear. You nod, smile and send them on their way.

Well, I don't think it is the hardware.
And a program registering activity even when disconnected would be proof that it is a software problem, no ?

Buy a new controller they said, it'll be the solution they said.
NEY!
I've installed microsofts xbox 360 controller drivers
https://www.microsoft.com/hardware/nl-nl/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows
And now it works perfect.
So even for ps3/ps4 controllers the xbox drivers work best.
Should have connected the dots earlier, windows=microsoft and xbox = microsoft.

So, i kinda answered myself, but mayb it will help some others in the future.
