Question

Control + R Randomly Not Working

Nov 22, 2011 12:23PM PST

Within Firefox (8 and 9) the Ctrl+R to refresh the page sometimes does not work.

It's totally random, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. This is the first time ever when using a browser this has happened.

Ideas? Help!! Thanks.

Answer
Not one I've noticed.

I'm using Firefox 8.0, (not seen any Firefox 9 as yet), but I rarely use the CTRL + R shortcut. I just click the Refresh option instead.

Does the Refresh option fail intermittently as well?

Is this Firefox 9 a test build? If so I wonder if this is a bug in the build. Also, if you have installed FF 9 in the same directory as FF 8, have any files been overwritten?

It's 9.0b2 but the problem was here with 7 and 8. Yes intermittently.

Not sure if files have been overwritten, I did install 9 over 8.

and thanks for that. So the problem has existed since FF7.

All I can think of is that the window "loses focus" just as you press the CTRL+R shortcut.

What I mean is, just as you initiate the shortcut, the Firefox window becomes inactive because some other window or process or whatever gains focus. I could see this happening for example with a trackpad on a laptop. Brushing the trackpad as you begin to type can cause strange effects, like mouse clicking the Desktop just as you're about to press the two keys. That means the CTRL+R has no meaning and nothing happens, even though the Firefox window looks like it is still the active window.

Other than that, I'm stumped. I would not have thought this was a corrupted Firefox profile with the intermittent nature of the problem. Perhaps a failed or failing add-on?
