Control key stuck on

Mar 14, 2004 1:52PM PST

I type large amounts every day and sometimes my fingers hit certain keys (not sure which ones, haven't figured it out yet) and when I hit those certain keys my whole operating system acts like I have the control key or something on. This happens when I am using Microsoft Word. For instance I immediately know because with my shift key off all letters are capitalized and with the shift key on all letters are lower case. And also, when I try to open something on my desktop, it highlights everything and then everything on my desktop opens at once. I am running Windows XP Professional, but when I was running Windows XP Home on my other computer it did the same thing. This can hold me up for hours trying to undo this mess. I try restarting and that doesn't help. I finally have to play around with the keys, hitting different keys until I happen to pick the right combination to undo what I had done. This is an issue that has been driving me crazy for quite some time. Does anyone have any insight into this or know what is going on? Please help if you can.

Thanks.
