Why? To see if it stops. This varies with the machine so check your product manual. Why we want to do this is to see if the machine noise stops when there is no OS running but powered up.
The usual find is a HDD that's making noise. We might run a HDD test (again, the maker tells how) and consider replacement depending on the results.
I am running a Samsung Notebook 9(one from 2015) with Win10.
Only today, I have noticed a continuous high-pitched beeping coming from somewhere around the touchpad. It isn't a steady stream, but it goes beep-beep-beep really fast randomly.
The weirder thing is that the beepings stop when I touch the touchpad or move the mouse. At first, I thought it could be a bad CMOS battery, but I ruled that out. After running various tests, I confirmed it wasn't a stuck key either. So my other options are a bad motherboard or shorted PS/2 port.
I would also like to add that the laptop works absolutely fine. No RAM errors, no errors, no faulty drivers, and system files are not corrupted. No hot temperatures either. It's running at 29 degrees Celsius with only Chrome open, which is normal.
Would anyone suggest a fix or any other ideas as to why the beeping happens?
Thanks.
