Question

Context menu has an indelible entry

Jan 19, 2016 2:23AM PST

Since the reply button and 'answer this' are both disabled for me, and my complaint about that has gone unanswered, I will take THIS means to continue the otherwise disabled thread.
Grif Thomas : I do NOT want RealPlayer uninstalled - I want it removed only from the Context menu. I have listed in my post all the third party software I had already tried in vain.
Joris903 : Yes, I have tried to manually delete.
I got RegScanner to find all the registry references to RealPlayer, and then searched those results for context menu. I lost my enthusiasm for it when I found 32 variants on HKCU\Software\Classes\RealPlayerXXXXXX\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\RealPlayerHandler where the XXXXXX ranged from AMR.10 through to WebM; and then a new series HKCU\Software\RealNetworks\RealDownloader\18.1\Preferences\MountPoints\YYYYYY\PluginHandlerData\PluginInfo1 where YYYYYY ranged from DT_RCAPlugins through Gemini - and who knows how many more entries. That first list had in common the following 'something' : {F0CB00CD-5A07-4D91-97F5-A8C92CDA93E4}. Does this information give a clue to getting progress in ridding Context menu of Real Player ?

If You Don't Want RP Uninstalled, There Lies Your Problem

Although you could theoretically remove all registry entries regarding RealPlayer, the program would reinstate them every time you run the program again, or update it again, and that usually means those items in ContextMenu and the Task Scheduler. Most folks have given up on the program because of its many problems. In my case, I've also had problems performing a simple uninstall.. It frequently doesn't uninstall correctly and I've had to hunt down the hundreds of registry entries, like those you've mentioned, just to get the computer clean of all things RealPlayer. (I find it interesting that most registry cleaners can't fine all the junk it leaves behind either..

Sorry, this isn't much help, but if you're not going to remove the product from the computer, I'm not aware of a permanent way to remove the program from the ContextMenu either.

And Kees suggested a link and the fix for the issue with AdBlock Plus and certain advert lists in relation to the "Reply" button.

Hope this helps.
