Question

Constantly Disconnecting Wi-Fi

Apr 9, 2018 3:23PM PDT

The Wi-Fi on my ASUS Laptop is constantly failing. It will disconnect and I can't reconnect unless I restart the whole computer. When it happens, and I attempt to reconnect, the Wi-Fi does its usual loading animation, but then the whole network selection tab minimizes, leaving me with just the buttons for airplane mode and hotspot and such. The Wi-Fi symbol goes from unconnected to a box with a red X, then back to unconnected as the networks reappear and the "Could not connect to this network" message appears.

This has been ongoing and increasingly getting worse. It reached a point where it was doing it every fifteen minutes. At that point I completely wiped the laptop, which fixed the problem for a few months, but now I am back to losing it daily or multiple times a day. When it happens, any external program I have open, such as a game, corrupts. What is happening here, and how do I fix it?

(I have completely updated every driver)

Clarification Request
HOW DID YOU UPDATE EVERY DRIVER?
Apr 9, 2018 3:48PM PDT

The wrong way is to use Microsoft's Update Driver button. The correct way is to go get them from the Asus site for your model and OS.

There is always a chance it's the router. Be sure to supply the forum what channel it's on, whether the router firmware is current and did you change the router password to get it all to yourself to kick out TORRENT USERS?

Finally, keep the router in view from the laptop and under 20 feet till it works right.

I'll hit pause here.

Possibly Router as Source of Problem
Apr 9, 2018 3:52PM PDT

I can't imagine that would be the problem. This happens no matter where I am, on my Wi-Fi, at my parents, at my grandparents. Aldo, what do you mean "What channel its on"

If it's everywhere I can share an issue where...
Apr 9, 2018 4:28PM PDT

Let's say I'm in France and my laptop is set to NA. The routers I'm trying to use are on channel 14. If you do your basic research on WiFi Channels on Wikipedia you should see why this is going to give your laptop fits.

So it can be the router. Also some machines way back in Vista days had issues with certain routers and the user would tell us "but no one else has this problem." So yup, can be the routers.

So moving on, now that you know about Wikipedia you can look into the channels.

I see I already noted how to get your drivers so I'll pause here.

Router Ch#
Apr 14, 2018 12:25AM PDT

The issue is not that you can use the same channel other places or that it's the channel itelf (well sort of) since most people don't really setup their routers you end up with everyone from the cable company using the same broadcast channel on their router(WiFi) so it causes interference with your laptop. The systems get confused when 6 WiFi routers within range all have the same channel set up to use. Always check with a WiFi tracker what your neighbors are using and adjust to higher chsnnel.

Wifi channels are the frequency with which Wifi networks work.

Answer
Are you using the correct driver?
May 2, 2018 11:51AM PDT

In my experience, I'd try with the correct wifi driver. I would look for the model of the laptop and download the drivers from the official website of the manufacturer for the installed operating system.

Reboot the router and check

Have you rebooted the router and seen if it works?

Answer
Uninstall the game and check

It does seem to be an impact from the game. If the game is uninstalled does the network work smoothly? Make sure the logs and game results are saved.
