Constant humming noise with TRV460 and HC-40

Feb 28, 2005 6:24PM PST

I have noticed a constant humming noise (referred to as motor noise in some places) when viewing through the viewfinder of the TRV460 and HC-40 when in the Standby and Record mode. Does the TRV480 and the HC-42 have the same problem. My old Sony TRV82 never had this problem. Is it because they are digital? You hear it most in quiet situations like an empty room etc..

I have a similar issue

I just purchased the Sony DCR-HC42 and it makes a humming/buzzing sound when a tape is in there and it's in REC mode, even when the unit is on standby. I don't know if this is normal.
