If your future computer has HDMI out, and your future TV has HDMI, such a component is called a HDMI cable.

I'm currently a college student using a laptop, but after graduating, I don't think a laptop will be much use to me. Moving into the professional world, I'll need a moderately powerful computer, and as I get my own apartment and furnish it, I want that computer to be the center of my entertainment needs. Systems like Hulu & Netflix have made Cable pointless to me now, and the easy availability of games on Steam has made me question my need for a console. BluRay drives in computers also make owning a separate bluray player unnecessary.
I'm familiar with TV tuners which allow your PC to record TV directly to your computer, and I'm familiar with the new TV products specifically for streaming the internet to your TV. I was just wondering if there's any sort of connection which would allow me to use my TV as an alternate monitor? My ideal set up would be a moderately powerful desktop witha 21" monitor or so, but nothing drastic, but also owning a 42+" HDTV with which I would watch movies and TV and play games, using my PC as the DVD player/BluRay player/game "console"/TV receiver (Hulu, netflix, etc).
Is there any component or whatever which would allow me to sling HD content from my (future) computer to my (future) TV set?
