connectivity

Sep 29, 2004 3:45AM PDT

I am having trouble connecting to the internet on a linksys BEFSR41. My roommate is using windows XP and is able to connect fine. I am using windows 98 SE and cannot. I can ping the router and can connect to the internet using just the cable modem. I have tried releasing and renewing the ip address, I have tried reinstalling the TCP/IP protocal, I have tried setting the IP address from obtaining automatically to a static IP address. I do not have any firewalls up that I know of. I have contacted my isp and they could not figure out what was wrong. Can anybody help me?

You haven't written much about the setup. Wired, wireless, what number of hosts the router is setup for, if dhcp works, if a firewall is installed and more.

Some machines don't have the motherboard drivers installed but your post ignored the forum tip so we have to fill in the blanks first.

From what I know of the BEFSR41 is not wireless. On the 98 os, have you check to see wather that is using DHCP? but first of all is your router using DHCP? And some more information might help if that is not the case.

Sorry about the lack of information. I was at work when I was typing so I had to type fast. First of all, the Linksys BEFSR41 is not wireless. My isp is roadrunner which is using DHCP. My windows 98 SE os is set up for DHCP. I originally had DNS and WIN disabled, set the computer to automatically obtain an ip address, and disabled dial-up. I have tried setting the link speed of my ethernet card to 10 half speed and based on a recommendation from Linksys, I have tried making my ip address static. My IP address is valid and the lease has not expired. The IP address is 192.168.1.141. I think that's all the information I know. Is anything else needed? Thanks

Also, there are no firewalls set up, the router is set to handle up to 200 hosts I believe. DHCP works. Thanks
