Connection to Exchange Dropping & Web Browser Not Working

Jan 9, 2008 5:59AM PST

Hello everyone,

I have a new Dell Inspiron E1505 Intel Core 2 Duo Processor that is running Vista Home Premium with Office 2007 Small Business Edition.

I have been able to cruise the Internet with Firefox or IE with no problem - until now.

I just started a new job (using this computer) and set up a connection to their VPN without problem. When I set up Outlook to sync with their Exchange server, however, the following problem started:

After 20 minutes, Outlook tells me that the connection to the Exchange server is dropped. (When I check my network connections, the VPN is still going strong, as is my Internet connection.) Once dropped, Outlook is then almost never able to re-establish the connection.

At the same time, if I go to open a web browser (Firefox or IE), it either won't open or, if it does, it can't find Yahoo or whatever site I want it to find. An error message comes up.

The only way to get my browser to work, or to get Outlook to connect with the exchange server, is to reboot the computer.

The two problems are definitely related. As long as I don't try to open Outlook, I'm able to be online for days without problems.

Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change? It's like by having the Outlook/Exchange on, it confuses things!

By the way, I'm able to access their Exchange server through webmail - the Internet- without problem.

Their VPN server is running XP.

Any help would really be appreciated! Thank you!!

Be sure to call it in.

Lodge the complaint ASAP with Dell so you can point back that you had issues in day 2 and you want them to resolve them with a free install of XP.

Did you check for that post we have in the networking forum about network setup (our way) and that patch for Vista that won't connect to some routers?

Bob

No, I didn't see that and I will find it. I will call Dell, too.

Thanks a million!!
