Connection Speed

Jan 4, 2008 10:26AM PST

Hello, I am having problems with my family's internet speed. We have a Netgear wgr614 with one wireless connection and one wired connection. When the wireless one is torrenting things, my wired connection speed slows to an almost screeching halt. While my mother was downloading stuff, I was trying to play Team fortress 2 and I was getting around 850 ping from every server I joined. My normal ping when we both are just online with no downloads is about 50. We have a 5MB connection speed. any help at all with this problem would be extremely appreciated. Also, the download speed doesn't seem to matter as the wireless was once getting 300kb/s and it was slow, then only 100kb/s and the same speed at the 300kb/s.

Explain

Ok, but I would like to know why that is normal. Also, why would I have the same ping as if she were downloading at 600kb/s when she is only doing 100kb/s? I'm glad for your recommendation, but she does throttle her torrents to 100, and it does not help at all.

So you throttled download. What about upload?

Seems half done. Sorry, this area has too much discussion on the web. I'm going to skip to answers only and not explain such in depth.
