Depends on the number/types of inputs/outputs you have but in general:
1. Use the S-video and stereo from the DVR output to the DVD recorder inputs. Use component out plus digital audio (coax or optical) out from the DVD recorder to your receiver IF you are using it for audio/video switching. Otherwise, hook directly to your TV inputs.
2. Use either the yellow video RCA cable plus the sterio outs (if you have any left) to your VCR or use the coax cable to hook them together. Use the Yellow video plus the stereo outputs to go to your receiver or TV as above.
3. Recording will be just like using a VCR, just chose the input for your DVR. You will record whatever you are either receiving or playon back on your DVR. Playback is through whatever input you have to the receiver or TV.
All,
Forgive my inexperience and ignorance. I just bought a SONY GX315 DVD recorder so I can record shows I saved on our DVR. I also have an Emerson VCR (that I'd also like to use record shows off the DVR), DVR (from the USA dish network), a Yamaha receiver and a 36' Sceptre LCD TV. I'm having a hard time connecting everything (and then, of course, getting them to work). I have the componet video (red/blue/green cable) hooked up between the Yamaha receiver and the TV. After that, I'm a little lost. I know the receiver should be the centralized location to hook to/from all my other components, but what cables do I use and where??? I do have a digital coax cable in this mix (which I believe goes to/from the receiver and DVD recorder), but not sure.
Once connected, how do you go about recording (steps, etc)? My TV has the usual video modes (HDMI, AV1, AV2, etc). Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'd like to to avoid a tech to do it spend hundreds of dollars in the process.
Thanks again for any of your expertise!!
