Connection/hardware question

Mar 26, 2006 10:09PM PST

I have an HP notebook and an EMachine Desktop. Desktop has DSL connedtion and 2 computers are networked via an Airlink wireless router. I also have Verizon wireless service for notebook when not at home. I want to disconnect DSL, get internet through notebook wireless ONLY and then route to the desktop. In other words link from the wireless notebook back to the desktop. What hardware do I need and how do I do this? Any help is appreciated.

I'll read about it

Thanks, I'll read about it and certainly not dismiss it. However, the Geek Squad could come out and install what I need (I already have a wirless router) and secure the network for around $150.00. That tells me they won't be using really expensive hardware, so there must be a cheaper way than going with the EVDO which causes me to buy another router. I'm sure, however, that is one way to do it. Thanks again.

This is beyond most GS staff.

I've yet to find a GS staffer to know about EVDO. But if you don't want a solid solution we can chat about using ICS and then attaching a WAP to your laptop. Some wifi routers can double as a WAP.

Such is likely outside the scope and skill of a GS staffer, but you might get luck. The real downside to using ICS is that it won't be as stable or work as well as the EVDO router solution. Finally, finding support and the setup documents are difficult.

I learned my lesson about this setup and offer no links about it since what people expect next is for me to help them to get it to work proper.
