Connection constantly broken..

Mar 8, 2005 4:43AM PST

I currently have my router connected to my landlord's router and both my computer and my roommate's computer connected to my router. I recently had a roommate change, and ever since she connected her computer to the network, the internet connection is CONSTANTLY being broken. Even if I unplug her computer it is still broken now.

Is there a virus floating around here, or what? Any advice would be helpful.

you might have to check your routers configuration for IP address (dhcp).. other possibility... your landlord have disconnect your router..

A sign of configuration problem on your router. Did you turn off DHCP on your router?

When I say the connection is broken I mean that I no longer have access to the internet. I usually go into my network places and "repair" the connection. This gets me back online and everything is fine, until a few minutes later when the connection is lost again.

I tried to look into the DHCP settings. I am pretty sure they were set up the way they were supposed to be. I tried changing them but that just prevented me from gaining any internet access at all. I changed them to their original settings and I am back in business, at least for now.It was originally set up so that DHCP is enabled on my landlord's router and disabled on mine. Hopefully we are on the same page.

Anyway, I am hoping that by changing those settings and then changing them back, things will be better. I will find out shortly.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I appreciate it!
