Connection Advice - DirecTV HD / HDTV / Sony Home Theater

Jul 10, 2009 5:37AM PDT

Looking for advice on the best way to connect the following components:

DirecTV HD Satellite Box
Samsung Plasma (Model PN50A650)
Sony Home Theater (Model HT-CT100)

Not exactly sure of how many/what type of cables to use for best performance. I'm new to the HDTV world and trying to learn how best to use these components.

Any advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Try this for size:

DirecTV Sat box (HDMI out) --> (HDMI in) Samsung Plasma
DirecTV Sat box (digital optical OR digital coaxial out) --> (digital optical OR digital coaxial in) Sony HT-CT100

This way you can bypass the Sony and use the HDTV speakers if you want. I can't imagine this particular Sony does much good handling video so I'd keep an HDMI going direct to the Sammy for quality purposes.

hth,
Pedro

Hi again,

My friend is getting the CT-100 also. She has a BluRay player and Comcast HD cablebox and a SONY Bravia TV. How should I hook her's up?

Do people keep buying those things? (LOL)

Oh well...

Same deal, basically. Here's how to connect:

Comcast HD DVR (HDMI out) --> (HDMI in) Sony Bravia
"" "" (digital coax or digital optical out) --> (digital coax or digital optical in) CT 100

Blu Ray player (HDMI out) --> (HDMI in) Sony Bravia
" " " " (digital coax or digital optical out) --> (digital coax or digital optical in) CT-100

have fun,
P
