Connecting while in safemode.

Feb 26, 2004 5:13AM PST

I am trying to download and install a Qwik-Fix product. I have had trouble before with Qwik-Fix but got over it last time by installing in safe mode. This time I need to be online to install and it seems you can't do this in safe mode. Or can you?

help would be much appreciated.

If you had Windows 95, you had "Safe mode with network support." And than if you had cable or dsl, I'll bet that you could connect. I've got it here, but I won't try it now.

But http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;179128&Product=w98 states this works only in Windows 98 if you install real-mode (i.e. DOS) network drivers. So check the diskette that came with your network card (if you've got cable or dsl).

But I wonder if it's worth the trouble. Is this new version so much better/safer for you than the previous one?

The trouble is, Kees, I may have been misled and it is in fact the old 57. I was told to uninstall the 57 during the download of the supposed new version and so I do not have qwik-fix at all now.

Since I downloaded the 57 I have had to reinstall all the 98se system ( I had problems that my computer repair man couldn't fix) and I have added a few other things so I don't know why I can no longer install the old QwikFix.

Thanks for your input.
