connecting using XP

by gravyz / September 16, 2004 11:51 PM PDT

Last week I installed WindowsXP upgrade from WindowsMe. When I was done I could not get online. I spoke to my isp's tech for 2 hrs (RCN cable) and MS tech for 3 hr.s and I could only get online in Safemode. I was told there must be programs running in background, a lot of spyware or a conflict with firewall (ZA) or antivirus (Norton) . I was finally told to call MS money back guarantee.
Yesterday I got around to calling and while on hold I installed the xp again. I don't know why I tried this, I disable my network card (Linsky) then enabled it and I was online. Since then whenever I start or restart I have to disable then enable the network card. I do have ZA & Norton running. Any thoughts on a fix?
Thanks

1. What steps did you take to remove all spyware?

2. What did you do to find and install all the current BIOS and drivers for your machine?

Hint: Microsoft does not do this for us.
