Which ISP, which browser...

For a couple of details left out. Also, is your DNS set up and tested? That would be another idea as well as looking at firewall configurations possibly.

Msg Body
May 28, 2007 5:10AM PDT

Sorry for some reason when I posted the msg body did not post.

Windstream is my ISP. I have AOL, Firefox, tried to get online updates from Trendmicro and Adaware. The browsers open but go nowhere.

The modem works on other computers with the same ISP and access number.

I have tried turning the Trendmicro firewall off and rebooting.

How would I check my DNS?

Thanks.

Possibilities...

First, try downloading and running the WinsockXPFix tool from the link below:

http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm

Next, because spyware can cause this issue, download, install, update, then run the free AVG Antispyware program from the link below:

AVG Antispyware 7.5 Tool

Next, why haven't you installed SP2 for XP? It should be done and it might fix the problem all by itself.. IMPORTANT though, if you have spyware, you're going to have problems installing SP2. Below is a link to the full downloadable file of XP SP2.. Download it to your computer using an broadband connection, save it to a CD disc for later use if necessary, then follow the instructions in the link below to install SP2:

Preparing Your Windows XP Computer For SP2

Hope this helps.

One DOS tool...

is nslookup. You can use it to look up where a site is hosted in terms of an IP address.
