Question

Connecting tablet to dvd?

Dec 27, 2014 4:20AM PST

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. I'd like to watch my DVD collection on it without converting all the DVDs to files. Is it possible to connect it to an external DVD drive or player? Which accessories would I need to purchase? Thanks for your help.

There doesn't appear to be DVD player software for tablets. Partly because of the design incorporated copy protection. I don't know if you know the history of DVD CSS (read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_Scramble_System ) so there was a defacto effort to lock down playback to just this or that. Tablets are from the new world of ideas so you'll have to research how to rip your DVD to files that you can play on the tablets.

I kind of like VLC PLAYER since a ripped DVD to an ISO file may keep most of the features. As this is a CBS hosted forum you won't find a deep discussion on ripping.

The simple answer, no, you already got.

You can watch your cable TV provider if you have such a subscription.
My sons like Hulu, netflix and Amazon also. All require a membership of some kind.

If you have used itunes, you still can.
I have the Note tablets and can sync my iTunes media onto then with Kies air and iSyncr.

No, aside from the suggestions above, you can also use a DVD ripper so you can play your DVD movies.
