But when it happens it's either cockpit user error or the 2 things are incompatible. If you can't return the TV, use what works.

I have thinkpad t510 and am using video port converter with HDMI cable. When I plug HDMI cable into hdmi port on TV my tv shows "no signal" message. However the computer has detected it - and as I've selected "extend display" it also acts as if that is working IE being able to drag a browser window offscreen. I have already tried the following; -
Testing all cables on another TV - all fine the signal is detected automatically -
Trying both HDMI ports - I still get the same message - Trying to switch tv on first then computer and the other way round -
Resetting TV to factory settings -
Making sure second screen is detected and being used by computer -
Within my display control settings it also states my TV supports HDCP -
Reducing res on my laptop to 1280x720
Also important to note - HDMI cable from my old comp works fine on TV . Also if I pug in RGB cable to connect that works fine.
TV Model is M2280d
